A lot of you have been asking about my photo editing routine on Instagram and my blog. So I thought why not start a series where I share my tips and advise on photography. To start off, I thought I’d share some of my favourite photography editing tips and tools that I use on the daily to achieve my signature look and feel for the photographs.
My go to tools for my photography are Adobe Lightroom and VSCO.
I import my images in Lightroom, where I do the initial adjustments such as colour balance, exposure, blacks, shadows, hightlights, etc. I then apply one of the desktop filters that I purchased from VSCO. I usually add a tint of pink to my images, as well as skew them over a tiny bit to the warmth end of the spectrum. When uploading on Instagram, I use VSCO app’s handy syncing feature which allows you to upload your images directly from your desktop to your phone. Then I use one of my favourite VSCO mobile app filters: 04, 06, 10, A6, E4 and make some few adjustments in terms of shadows and highlights to match my feed and bam! its done!
It is important to know what kind of look and feel you’re going for from the very start. Most of my images are taken in brightly lit spaces, often outdoors and so the filters and settings I use on the daily apply perfectly. However, there are times when these techniques do not apply. This usually happens when I deviate from my usual shoots’ settings and adapt an entirely different look. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind that production/shoot is the most important stage of producing quality images rather than solely relying on post-production techniques.
I hope this post was handy! I will be talking about my shooting tips and tricks next to ensure that the photographs that you bring to your post-production are indeed quality in order to render stellar imagery.
Until next time, lovelies!
