As I wrote previously this week, I am now pursuing blogging and freelance life full time. Life is nothing short of a dream right now and my heart leaps with joy each time that hits me. I wake up without an alarm clock, cherish the sweetness of slow living by staying in bed just a little bit longer, freshen up and then cook myself a rich breakfast. Then, I sit on my porch with my mother and sweet kitty, Nietzsche, and we talk till our bellies hurt with laughter and our minds swoon with inspirations and dreams.
Inspired, I head upstairs to my home office – which is still a work in progress – and start my day with a bang!
Oddly enough, the type B person that I am, I have actually created a schedule that I religiously follow (surprise!):
Sundays are for brainstorming sessions which includes my most favourite activity: creating mood boards. I spend the first half of the day planning out how I want my week to look and feel like and then curate inspiration to soak into my space. I then spend the remainder of my time planning out shoots, client work, blogging tasks as well as school work.
Mondays are typically for shoots. I like to start my week with a bang! and what’s better than dressing up and heading to beautiful locations to shoot?! Nothing! (Event though that was a rhetorical questions *rolls eyes*) By dedicating the infamous murky day to doing something fun and uplifting really sets my spirits up for the week. After the shoots, I like to immediately dive in editing the shots. The process of editing is very dear to me. It is almost sort of like meditation as I zone into the world of colours and grains, instilling a little bit of magic in the shots and really creating art that is more than just snaps.
Tuesdays are reserved for school work. Being in a design school can get really hectic. We have projects due every week and so it is imperative to always be on top of things or else all hell breaks loose without you even seeing it coming. One good thing about being in a creative school is that it really helps with the overall creativity of your being. I use the inspiration I get from my school to push myself to create better content for my blog as well as my studio.
Wednesdays are reserved for school work – again.
Thursdays are strictly for blog and studio work. I spend the day writing and scheduling content for my blog, as well as schedule pins on Tailwind and plan out my content for Instagram on Planoly. I like to have everything set up and ready so I don’t have to worry about any of it when I am actually creating content for my channels. Once I am done sorting out the content for the blog, I direct my efforts to client work. I run a full-service studio so my client work ranges from brand and web design to photography and content creation. So depending on the client I am working with, my schedule tends to fluctuate.
Fridays are for school and friends! I try to schedule almost all of my friends dates and meet ups on Fridays as it is the only I give myself to socialize and let lose.
Saturdays are for taking it slow while keeping it chill. I tend to write some blog posts, create some illustrations, work on some content creations and plan out some projects but only if they really help me unwind and relax. I usually spend the day dreaming in a hot bath tub with candles all around me while listening to some chill beats. At night, I catch up on a book I am reading and take breaks with some Netflix sessions.
And the week restarts!
Despite each day having its own set of activities and tasks, I tend to read every day before bed and draw at least one illustration to keep my creative juices flowing. I also have begun being more selective with the clients and brands I work with as I have realized the importance of keeping the passion in my work alive. You may have seen the update of my studio site and realized that the ethos of my studio is based on storytelling. For months now, I had been trying to figure out the direction I wanted to take my creative studio in. I love design and creation but I had started to feel jaded with the projects I was working on and had begun losing interest from it all – it was scary! So, I decided to do a revamp of the site, really dig into what gets me excited and bam! I came to the realization that I wanted my studio to be a storytelling shop filled with magical treasures and enchantment. If you haven’t checked out my studio, please do give it a visit, I poured my heart into it.
Ahhh! Being able to live my days in the manner that I am currently really reminds me how truly blessed I am and how the struggle was worth it all.
Here’s to adding more magic and purpose in our day to day!
